DISCOVER

The ancient cradle of the city of Paris, once known as Lutetia, the Île de la Cité has long been the capital's nerve center, hosting the palaces of the kings of France and the French parliament long before the Louvre and Versailles.
Profoundly remodeled during the great Haussmannian works of the 19th century, the island retains an incomparable charm today, thanks to its spectacular monuments on the banks of the Seine and its narrow streets where history mingles with picturesque and unique views.
A symbol of Gothic architecture, the Ile de la Cité is also the site of the world's most famous cathedral, Notre-Dame de Paris, site of so many wonders and tragedies.

FEEL

Intended by Bishop Maurice de Sully, Notre-Dame's foundation stone was laid in 1163 and completed two centuries later. Damaged by time and revolution, it was the architect Viollet-le-Duc who brought the majesty of the edifice back to life in the 19th century.
However, on April 15, 2019, flames consumed this thousand-year-old heritage. The fire tore the hearts of Paris and the world apart, but in its ruin, Notre-Dame rallied a global community in an unprecedented show of solidarity.
Now restored down to the last nook and cranny, the cathedral's reconstruction has been dubbed the “worksite of the century”, bringing together over 1,000 craftsmen and specialists. Notre-Dame will rise from the ashes!
